A movie is considered a remake if it uses an older film as its source material. It’s not just studios that are relying upon the success of past movies. New filmmakers may also want to remake the movie using their creative input. There are also many marketing benefits for remakes. They’re cheaper and easier to market because they’re based on an existing concept. Studio’s like to make remakes of these films and follow-ups.
Aside from the many movie fans who love to see new takes on their favourite movies (heart 2016, for example), there are others who don’t like to watch their favorite film in a more modern style. They feel it’s too much. These groups are the ones who are most likely to say that remakes do not receive the same amount of critical praise as their original counterpart. Why do film studios keep making remakes if this is true? Why are filmmakers unable to come up with original, new ideas? Remakes can be successful. It is a guarantee that filmmakers will be successful if they make sequels or remakes back to back of previously successful films. The franchise has already built up a fan base, so it is almost certain that fans will see the next film. Most modern versions wouldn’t be as successful (heart 2016,) if the original wasn’t around.
Ocean’s movies is a great example. It’s difficult to make a remake successful as you need to balance many things. You have to respect the original while adding new elements. It is important to consider the spirit and relevance of the film. (S.Reeves 2015) Many remakes have made fans angry, such as “Clash of the titans” (2010) and “Psycho” (1998). Ocean’s Eleven is a comedy about 11 men who rob a few casino’s in one night. The two teams, despite sharing the same title, have completely different missions.
It also cast George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Julia Roberts, Matt Damon etc. The cast of the Original movie was also very impressive, so it encouraged them to trust the project. Danny Ocean was played by Frank Sinatra and George Clooney respectively in both movies. Danny Ocean, an ex-sergeant from World War II, gathers his old squadron and plans a military-style heist against five major Las Vegas casinos (g funk, 2016). Danny’s ex-wife is a major motivation in the remake (g-funk 2016). The plan involves obtaining her from Terry Benedict. Danny’s motivation in the first film was more driven by greed. Andy Garcia’s Terry Benedict gives the remake a more antagonistic role, as the original only had one until the end. He opposes Danny’s plan and adds a personality to this movie (gfunk, 2016).The most significant difference between these two movies is that in remake, the crew keep the money, plus nobody dies. The film has a much lighter, more playful tone. The original movie did not have a military background to tie all of the characters together. Danny has met some of the men in the remake but there are also others he’s never met before (gfunk, 2016, 2016).
