Freedom Writers tells the story of a teacher who is devoted to her students, but cannot get any support or resources because no one believes that they will pass their freshman year. The plot becomes a dazzling version of Dangerous Minds, with the joy of an After School Special. Ironically, this film has almost no educational content. Freedom Writers makes a case for teens to be listened to.

She uses a variety techniques to try and engage her students. Erin’s students begin to refuse to participate in her class. She uses a variety of techniques every day. Erin is confronted with an offensive racial comic in her class. Erin’s classroom is transformed by the use of this cartoon. Students were forced to listen and Erin was also forced to hear her students’ stories about their street wars. Erin was able to establish a connection with her student and motivate them to improve their lives.

Erin uses “The Diary of Anne Frank,” to help her students see beyond their own community and to be aware of those who suffer and struggle around the globe. Erin was aware that each student has a unique story to tell. Erin encourages students to create a journal in which they can write about their own experiences and share them with others. Erin’s students learn a lot from her attempts to manage diversity. In the end, Gruwell gets praised for having prepared so many children for college and graduation. This is a big deal for most of these kids. “No one is a stranger to me, no matter my race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

This quote highlights that Gruwell encourages her students to work hard during a time when we are all faced with diversity. This movie has inspired me to realize that teaching is not only about earning a salary, but also sharing knowledge with students and giving them the time to become leaders of the next generation. Gruwell faces many situations, like when her boss criticizes and opposes Gruwell’s teaching techniques. She still teaches despite her bad environment. She fights for the rights to education and attention of society, in particular the students. One of them said, “Everyone wants to be happy because they are young.” They do not see the daily wars we fight. Erin Gruwell was adamant. She used her passion and creativity to help these students. She was successful in overcoming the prejudices and violence in their lives.
